English 11 concentrates on American Literature. Its emphasis is the analysis of various genres including fiction, nonfiction, poetry and drama provided by American writers. Through the exploration of literary analysis, the course develops critical thinking in both verbal and written form. Oral presentation of poetry is required. Other modes of writing include narrative, expository, persuasive and descriptive modes of writing as well as responding to literature. A book report and a research paper are required. Writings are included in an ongoing portfolio
