Description
English 11 concentrates on American Literature. Its emphasis is the analysis of various genres including fiction, nonfiction, poetry and drama provided by American writers. Through the exploration of literary analysis, the course develops critical thinking in both verbal and written form. Oral presentation of poetry is required. Other modes of writing include narrative, expository, persuasive and descriptive modes of writing as well as responding to literature. A book report and a research paper are required. Writings are included in an ongoing portfolio

- For your research project you will conduct an informative research analysis of a poet and 3 – 5 of her/his works. The following information provides you with the exact format to adhere to when creating this analysis. You will be expected to conduct the research, create note cards, devise a thesis statement and an outline and to present your findings to your classmates in a visual and oral report. You will also be tested on the elements of poetry/literature, which you will find in the packet I have given to you. During this process, you will be expected to turn in specific components of your research along the way (note cards, thesis statements, outlines, works cited, rough drafts, peer editing) to provide evidence of your ongoing work.
