Assignment

Students should be reading their library books.

Week of Sept 6-9.  Biography research.

Instructions to student:  You must research a person to write a short biography about.  The person must be appropriate.  The biographies will be hanging on the library walls for 9 weeks.  We have students, parents and professionals come into the library, so pick an appropriate person and use an appropriate picture.  For example, a sports figure who was recently arrested for assault or dog fighting would not be considered an appropriate role model.  Pictures should not have anything like cigarettes or drugs in them.  No excessive skin showing.

We will research and type these in class together.  You can pick any font with two exceptions.  It must be something I can read (no flowing scripts).  It can’t be all capital letters (grammar counts).

Font size should be 11 through 14.  Use paragraph form.

You must include the date of birth.  If they are dead, include the date of death.  Include an interesting fact about their childhood.  Tell why they are famous.  Make your biography interesting.

You must find information from a book or magazine source in the library.  Then, you can gather further information from the internet.  At the bottom of your paper, list the book or magazine source and the website(s) that you used.

After you have finished your rough draft, turn it in to me for corrections.  After you receive them back and make the corrections, you will mount them on colored paper and hang them in the library.  You have 4 days to complete this assignment .

Biography Yearbook, Encyclopedia of World Biography, Author Biographies, and Reader’s Guides are resources.  Then, start with the book or magazine sources.  Don’t get on the internet until you have the print source completed.
