Description
The week of Sept. 9 - 13.  The students will be introduced to their first short story, Amigo Brothers. 
                                           Students will listen to, read, and comprehend the literature
                                           Students will learn and apply the skill of compare/contrast
                                           Students will record literary elements and vocabulary words into notebooks 
                                            to aid in understanding

Jan. 15 - Feb. 21 Students will be introduced to Poetry and its elements.  Students will be reading, comprehending, reciting, and writing their own poems.
Many literary elements are reviewed while studying poetry
Students will gain an 'appreciation' of poetry

Students will be reading and studying the novella, A Christmas Carol, by Charles Dickens.

Nov. 25 - Dec. 6.  Students are going to conduct Peer Interviews.  They are partnered up with a peer from their class.  Several interview questions need to be asked, recorded, and then presented to the class.

Oct 31 - Nov. 8 Students will be beginning a famous short story, Rikki-tikki-tavi, by Rudyard Kipling.  Students will be learning the elements of plot and setting.  Student will be entering vocabulary words into their notebooks and practicing vocabulary enriching activities.  Students will listen to, and read aloud the story.

Oct 22 - Oct 25.  Students are being quizzed on Three Skeleton Key and preparing a graphic cartoon to go with the story.  These will be the last 2 grades for the 9 week marking period.  Elements of literature that were studied, are suspense, and foreshadowing.

Oct 7 - 11  Students will begin a short story, Three Skeleton Key.  Students will be studying suspense and plot diagram.  Students will be taking notes, and vocabulary enrichment.  Daily activities will be placed on the homework sheet.
