Reread pages 52-54 and pay particular attention to the conversation between Red and Andy about the corrupt businesses that take place in Shawshank. Despite Andy assisting the guards in breaking the law, why does he have an untroubled conscience? This scene also demonstrates a commonality that is shared between Andy and Red. What do the two characters have in common? What is happening in Shawshank, as described by the two men, is ironic in nature. How so?
